Air Duct Cleaning Cost Calculator

Updated October 2026

Pick your home/vent count, the pricing basis (per vent, per square foot, or flat per system), and whether you want the dryer vent included — the calculator returns the band from the cited dataset rows and shows all three models side-by-side so you can match any quote to the job it describes.

The one rule that matters: the three pricing models are different bases for different scopes — this calculator never averages them. A contractor quoting $35 per vent and one quoting a flat $500 may be describing the same visit. A quote that mixes the two — a per-vent price on a job described as flat-per-system — is the “$99 whole-house special” pattern.

Estimate: $300 – $600 — from cited national bands, not a quote

Basis: per vent (price × vents cleaned)

$25–$50 each × 12 vents ($35 typical ⇒ ≈ $420). Return vents can reach $75 each.

The three pricing models price different scopes — a per-vent number and a flat-per-system number describe the same job from two bases. Bands are per-source, never averaged. Get local written quotes before any work.

All three pricing models (shown side-by-side by design)

  • Per vent — $25–$50 each ($35 typical; up to $75/return). Basis: price × vents cleaned.
  • Per square foot — $0.15 low; high $0.30–$0.35. Basis: rate × home area.
  • Flat per system — ~$500 typical ($300–$600 band). Basis: one price, regardless of vent count.

A quote naming a per-vent price on a job described as flat-per-system (or a flat “special” far below ~$500) is the $99-special pattern — ask which basis the number is priced on.

What the quote should name

  • The pricing basis — per vent, per sq ft, or flat.
  • Vents cleaned, including returns.
  • Trunk lines included? (the blow-and-go check)
  • Dryer vent in scope, and at which basis ($100 with the visit vs standalone).
  • Add-ons as line items — pest, mold, repairs, inspection, testing are separate, never folded into the base.
  • Labor rate if billed hourly — $90–$125/hr (HomeAdvisor/Angi exact; Fixr to $130/hr).

Is cleaning worth it? That depends on your situation — see the EPA-guidance section. [GATED on a duct context-facts card]. Sources: four independent publishers — per-vent $25–$50, per-sq-ft low $0.15, labor $90–$125/hr, and the 8→20 vent table are exact cross-publisher matches. Lead slot: HVAC-adjacent class (marked placeholder, no live link, no PII until approved).

How to read the estimate

  • Band, not a quote. Each result is a national band from cited publishers, not a bid for your property.
  • Basis travels with the number. Every figure prints with its basis — per vent, per sq ft, or flat per system — never as a bare number.
  • Per-source, never averaged. The per-vent $25–$50, per-sq-ft low $0.15, the $90–$125/hr labor, the 8→20 vent table, and dryer-vent $100 with a cleaning are exact cross-publisher matches.
  • Where it stops. Health/fire claims and the worth-it answer are deliberately out of scope — those facts need the separate duct context-facts card and are not invented here.
