Tree Care Cost Calculator — Stump Grinding & Trimming

Two modes, both band-based from the cited dataset: stump grinding from the $150–$300 size-tiered band (about $200 typical), or tree trimming from $175–$750 per tree by size class — with crew-rate context and the honest caveats rendered with every result. The result is a band, not a quote.

The removal bands, the height-band conflict, and the emergency/crane regimes in context: the full tree removal cost guide.

Tree removal is intentionally not a calculator here: its price is height band plus access (crane, power lines, emergency regime) — see the tree removal guide tables for the per-source bands.

Estimated band

$75 – $150

Stump grinding, medium (13–47 in) (Fixr size table; headline band $150–$300, about $200 typical)

Some pros charge per inch of trunk diameter — the source publishes that as a pricing method, with no per-inch rate, so this estimate stays band-based. A $100 travel/equipment minimum applies.

Estimate from cited national bands, not a quote. Tree pricing is the widest-banded category we price — height classes differ between publishers, and jobs near power lines or structures can leave the band entirely. Get local written quotes before any work.

What this calculator deliberately does not price

No tree-removal mode, at any phase. A removal estimate is height band + access (crane premium, power-line hazard regime, emergency surcharge) — reducing that to a two-input calculator would fake a precision the category doesn't have. The hub and the guide price removal honestly with per-source bands and the regime split; this calculator cross-links there instead of guessing.

The same guardrail shapes what the two modes show: the stump modes render the per-inch pricing caveat (a method note — the source publishes no per-inch rate) and the travel/equipment minimum; the extraction toggle states the source's national average with its 24-inch-stump basis rather than as a universal number; the trimming mode treats the emergency surcharge as the separate regime the dataset records, never a multiplier folded in silently.

Honest limits

Height classes differ between publishers — tree care is the widest-banded category this site prices — and jobs near power lines or structures can leave the band entirely (the dataset's recorded hazard cases run 5× the standard band top). The grinding and trimming rows lean on Fixr's Jan-2025-edition guides (staleness flagged in the dataset) with HomeGuide archive cross-checks; class rows are single-source pending the next source pass.
